amanda;

i think that the humerous part was that technology did break down, it just kept going and going
the things that broke down over here were...
adrian's big black floor piece
and the sometimes unwillingness
of the video people to cross over to the
sound area and vice versa

misha;

the main thing to think is not so much in technical/real/virtual strokes, but to look on a broader sphere.

what is going on in these times, also because of the greater access to digi tech is the theatre of experience we have been working on
rather than theatre of representation
this is my standpoint
if you are working with the theatre of experience, then the environmental conditions are paramount to that experience.

therefore you cannot separate the fact that you were in a university and we were in a building where the roof blew off

that has nothing to do with the technology...the virtual/real but more to do with circumstance...being open for potential and having that potential ripped away by the situation

Oh, I wasn't aware of that. Was that hc gilje? It was kind of hard to tell what was going on sometimes, with so many things in the mix.

Well. it was supposed to be kind of a video playground, to experiment, so I puposely didn't make any patches in advance. But you're right, I should have at least tested the video input beforehand. Oh well, I did actually have a lovely time. It was just a little frustruating.

As far as it being a korporat galla spektakle - in Toronto, at least, I thought it was a bunch of friends that got together - and brought their own equipment - to have some fun. Certainly Michelle Teran isn't a korporation, and she basically put it all together here. She got the university to let us use a room and a projector, and I think Interaccess lent us an ethernet hub or something. Does that make it a korporat spektakle? Well, maybe there was more to it than that, I don't know.

hello jeff,
I had the opportunity to do some nato sessions on my powerbook at the norwegian part of momentum. I used either firewire in or USB video in as a live source, combining elements happening in the space with quicktime material. I was hoping to be able to combine with two video inputs, but I was only able to keep one video input feed active at a time (the other one just stopped)

Ellen made some really nice things with keystroke.

Hi all

I'm afraid I didn't do a very good job of showing off nato at the Momentum event last weekend. I was supposed to be doing live processing of video from various sources, but I wasn't able to get any video into the computer. Previously I have only worked with QT movies, and this was the first time I've tried using the 242.vdig object, on my powerbook with firewire input.

Well, everything else at the event went quite well; there were people using Keystroke, ivisit, realvideo, houdini, and various cameras, video mixer, etc., as well as djs/live electronic music and performances. So everyone had a good time.

anyway, at moment we're going for an oasis type of setting in the pavillion...so the screen tower will be built around a fake palm tree...have also managed to get hold of some large tropical ferns and a couple of banana trees! Heeheehee....not bad eh?

Hello All
This will be a first in a series of email to keep you posted on the Momentum project as it develops.

First of all, let me say that I was so excited by your positive reception to my initial proposal. I have been having fun with internet performances and general online shenanigans for the past year and a half. I am really excited to have the opportunity to involve others by participating in this live art event.

It has been some time since I sent the first email, so to reiterate:

Momentum will be a weekend event of Live Art activities from parallel performance spaces in Toronto, Oslo and Amsterdam. These spaces will be joined with international artists using the internet as a platform for exchange. This event will start at 2:00 pm on Saturday and continue on until Sunday evening.

During the weekend we will be streaming video from our local spaces.

I have secured a space at Ryerson with a decent internet connection and some equipment at our disposal.

My intention is to design the space as a social/work lab, set up a kind of playground with lots of things to work with, and then just let things evolve.

Cheers
Misha
